What Next?
I’ve only had this site for little over two weeks, but I already feel the need to expand to bigger and better things. As much as I enjoy being on Wordpress, I feel like the site really limits me. I don’t like any of the built in themes, and really don’t want to sink in a monthly fee to make one of the default themes my own. Also, I really want my own domain name. In my frustration, I began looking else ware. In the past, I have installed Wordpress on my own servers and hosted them through a free hosting service called zendfree, unfortunately that service recently went out of business. Wanting more from my blog, I found a site called Squarespace.
The site seems to take Wordpress’ best attributes and expand on them. They have widgets, but you can drag and drop them anywhere. They have traffic reports, but there more broken down and exact, really giving me a feel of who reads this thing. The only really downside to the service is the monthly fee. It is $8-$50 a month. Getting started I would choose the $8 a month package, which, outside from being able to edit the content myself, doesn’t include a whole lot. To have my own domain, I would need to bump it up to the $14 plan.
Another thing I like is that the landing page of the site can be static. I need to make a personal web site, one that has a blog, ways to contact me, and a resume type page. The ability to have complete control over the structure of the web site would help with making the all-in-one personal site much easier. Also, most of the sites that I have seen that are hosted using the service are beautiful. These sites aren’t your average, bland looking blogs at all. They also support Wordpress exporting. I’ll need to think about this one for a minute.
