Google Reader Adds Comments

by Michael Lapidakis on March 17, 2009

I have been an avid Google Reader user for close to a year now, and love the free service offered by Google. Prior to Reader I would either check the handful of sites I read daily directly from the sites, or through my Google home page. This worked for a handful of sites (three or less) but became an issue when I began digging deeper, and wanted to check more sites. After discovering reader, the ability to tab (using the key strokes “n/p” or “j/k”) through sites became something I couldn’t live without. I now read 28 separate sites, some for a specific niche, such as The iPhone Blog, and some general tech blogs like the ever popular Engadget. It makes keeping up with news fun and social.

Since I started, there has always been a “share” feature that allows the user to “share” the article with their Google friends that use Reader. The sharer had the ability to make a comment, but could not receive feedback from their friends. Recently, how recent I’m not sure due to my absence; it seems Google has added the ability for the recipient of the shared article to post a comment back. This is a brilliant idea. Being able to discuss an interesting article within the main reader page and have those comments associated with that article for future reference is perfect. Well back to dwindling away at my huge pile of unread articles. Google, you never stop treating me to free internet goodies.
