Why the Sudden Change Ole’ Chap?
by Michael Lapidakis on June 28, 2009
So if you are one of the few people aside from my mom that checks this blog every once and a while, you may have noticed a change in the overall design of the site. At first glance, it looks purely superficial, but a deeper look shows a complete change in scenery. To start things off, I switched the site’s content management system back to WordPress. The main reason I did this was financial. I have a Media Temple server that hosts Parq.me (yea, that dream is still around) and since the site doesn’t use too much resources yet, and the hosting package we have is a pretty good one, why not take advantage of it. Paying for two seperate hosting packages each month is pretty ridiculous, especially when the combined traffic of the two sites is hardly worth mentioning.
Another reason moving wasn’t too hard is the customization of WP. I can add plugins, change code and have overall more control over my domain. The more time I spend with it, the better off I think I am with the change. For example, I have been wanting to add Disquse commenting from the beginning, but with SquareSpace you don’t have that much control over your environment. The last real reason is domain control. Prior, my domain was parked at SquareSpace and there wasn’t a whole lot I could do with it.
Anyway, if anyone has any advice on WordPress or comments on the new layout please let me know. Hopefully I can find the time to update the site a little more often in the coming months.
